Studying abroad gives you the opportunity to connect with individuals from all over the world. As study abroad programs typically welcome students from multiple universities around the globe, this means that you will find yourself studying alongside a diverse group of students.

While studying abroad can feel isolating at first, as you seek to adapt to your new surroundings without the same level of support from close friends and family, you will have the opportunity to make new friends and build connections that will enrich your study abroad experience. 

Even if you aren’t entirely sure what work you would like to do in the future, take the time to connect with students, faculty and staff at your host institution. These connections could lead to additional networking, letters of recommendation for graduate school and even job opportunities! 

Be open to using different social media and professional networking platforms while abroad, and continue to use them after your return to maintain the relationships you built during your studies.
