Your Next Chapter Starts Here

As you prepare to graduate and embark on the next phase of your journey, we’re here to support you every step of the way. From polishing your resume to navigating job offers, the McCree Center provides resources, guidance, and connections to help you transition successfully from college to career.

Key Career Steps for Goal Execution

  1. Define Your Post-Graduation Goals
    • Be specific about what you want to achieve, whether it’s securing a job, pursuing graduate school, traveling, or launching a personal project.
Example: “I want to secure an entry-level position in marketing by August 1st.”
  2. Break Your Goal Into Actionable Steps
    • Identify the smaller tasks needed to achieve your goal and focus on them one at a time.
      Example for Job Search:
      • Research 10 companies that interest you.
      • Update your resume and LinkedIn profile.
      • Draft tailored cover letters for each position.
      • Apply for 5 positions per week.
  3. Set a Timeline for Each Step
    • Assign specific deadlines to keep yourself accountable and prevent procrastination.
Example: “By the end of February, I will have attended at least two networking events and applied for five jobs.”
  4. Build Your Network
    • Leverage alumni, professors, internship supervisors, and career center resources to expand your connections.
    • Attend career fairs and networking events.
    • Reach out on LinkedIn for informational interviews.
    • Follow up with new connections to build meaningful relationships.
  5. Stay Organized and Track Progress
    • Use a spreadsheet, planner, or app to log deadlines, applications, and follow-ups.
Pro Tip: Color-code your tasks (e.g., “In Progress,” “Submitted,” “Interview Scheduled”) to visualize progress.
